In this blog I will present you the experiences, insights and achievements I have gotten in the last 20 years, or so, that led me to discover how to stay young and fit, at any age.
If you are, like I was, one of those who are struggling to find a viable solution to get their results and keep them up in a long-lasting way, then, you are in the right place.
If you are one of those who would like to feel healthier and stronger in their body and mind, you are in the right place. Or maybe are you one of those who would like to create a routine that allows them to have a free lifestyle without concerns or obsessions for dieting and exercising? Yep, you have guessed it, you are in the right place too. And this is the right place because I found a viable answer to all these questions. I found it for myself and I think that it is worth sharing.
The beginning: feeling lost
When I started my journey, I did wander in all directions, following the most fashionable advice, listening to every single program, reading and cutting out tips from magazines and asking girlfriends for advice and insights. Guess what? I spent many years jumping here and there, but with no specific plans nor purposes and I didn’t get anywhere. I was so frustrated. Nevertheless, following my passion for all wellness-related topics (and in a while you will discover how this passion came up to me) I didn’t give up, till something started to become a bit clearer.
Make you body work for you with Nutrition
At first it was nutrition. I started to understand that, in order to achieve results, I had to change my approach and strategy: instead of fighting against my body (starving it or choosing solutions not durable because not balanced) I had to make my body work for me and activate its natural ability to regain and keep the balance. And so, I did. I found the key that worked out well for me and I turned my body “on”, from my “enemy” to my first ally.
Effective Workout
Some years later, around the beginning of 2013, I had another breakthrough moment. Up to that point in time I had spent more than 10 years doing mainly cardio workouts and, you know, the usual exercises most people normally perform at the gym. And what were the results? I was investing a lot of time doing very long training and a lot of money in gym fee. Moreover, the workout was boring, and I did not get the results I wanted: I struggled to keep my weight stable and I reached plateaus very easily, forcing myself to increase the exercises length over and over. I was spending so much time at the gym that I could barely enjoy my spare time! Last, but not least, I became skinny with very poor muscle and, as a result, I did not look very healthy. At some point, then, I started to look around me and I noticed that women who were used to weightlifting or to shorter and more intense workouts not just looked more athletic, but sexier and even healthier. So, I thought that maybe I should have given it a try, too. I did some preliminary research that turned out to be rather interesting and, as I was quite happy with what I found out, I started practicing this new way of training.
The soothing power of Meditation
Fast forward in time, some years later, I realized that a good nutritional plan and a quite effective workout routine were not enough, unfortunately, as my results were highly affected by my stress level. Of course, it is well known how stress can impact our health. However, I had not properly realized it until after a routine blood examination when I found out that cortisol (aka stress hormone) levels were pretty high. “It’s normal”, I thought, “considering my lifestyle and rhythm of work”. But then, I started paying a lot more attention to my body weight changes in response to stress. To keep the story short, this got me into meditation.
The missing piece…
So, okay, quite a long journey but nothing particularly new, so far. In fact, there is a lot of literature stating that the combination of [Nutrition + Exercise + Meditation] is the key to wellness. And of course, it is. But, in my experience, in order to achieve a long-lasting wellbeing (and with that I mean a stable position with very low chance of bouncing back to the starting point) something is still missing.
So, what is this “x factor”, this “quid” that seems to work wonders as a glue, keeping all the other elements together? Well, it is neither a magic pill nor anything else you can buy as a quick-fix solution. This “x factor” is what you think about yourself. Just as simple as that. Your inner beliefs related to your self-perception and self-image.
I’ll try to make this point a bit clearer. If you think about yourself “I am a fat person”, maybe because this is what you have experienced sometimes, or if you tell yourself in your never ending internal dialogue “it is difficult for me to lose weight, get fit or be 100% healthy”, this inner and subconscious self-image becomes your self-sabotaging personal program. Why is that? This happens because the mind (whose primary task is to keep us alive and, therefore, guide us to safety and risk avoidance) once programmed in a certain way, tends to automatically condition itself and reinforce itself into its dominant thought patterns. In other words, the mind takes us to the least resistant (aka more dominant) thought patterns, unless we make a conscious effort to reprogram these patterns by choosing others that empower us a little more (which is easier said than done!).
With Lifekoru and my Programme I want to share my experience and understanding with you. I see so many people struggling so hard, getting frustrated, compromising or giving up on their happiness, love or success because they can’t feel happy and comfortable with their self-image (internal and, as consequence, external too). I can show you what I did and how.
So, at this stage, if what I have said resonates with you somehow, simply ask yourself this question: “would I feel happy in one year from now if I found myself exactly where I am now?”. If your answer is “no!”, or even just “maybe not”, rest assured you are in the right place.
Let me show you how to implement this very easy formula to get and stay fit and young! Keep on reading the next posts to discover more.
