A crucial point in making your desires true is the ability to consistently commit to what you want, a personality trait apparently very simple, nonetheless rather hard to find among people. We could define lack of commitment as such: “losing track in staying focused and committed as the first hindrances occur and neglecting the importance of small choices and activities put in place consistently every single day“.
Success does not happen to you just by chance, rather it is a daily choice. People who succeed are committed to achieve their goals and, in doing so, they get also the strength and the motivation to stay focused and get rid of any excuse or alibi. Apparently overnight success are people who have been slogging for years before they eventually made it, even if it seems like it came easy. Have you ever associated the dynamic of success with the blossoming of a sprout (*)?
There is an initial, very long phase, invisible to the naked eye, where the sprout takes roots and, even though it still is under the ground, it starts to reach out to the surface with perseverance, strength and determination. At this stage, a mere onlooker will not happen to notice anything. However, when the sprout finally comes out from the soil, it is amazing to appreciate the speed and strength it grows with, while absorbing nutrients and reaching out to the light.
Likewise, does success. If we can stay focused on our desired goal and keep constantly going day by day, step-bystep, little achievement after little achievement towards where we want to be, we will get there. Moreover, at some point we will notice that all the small, but incremental, actions we did along the way, start to unleash a compound and propelling effect which, in turn, becomes very visible to everybody. Then, all the job done begins to reap rewards. To get to this stage, however, everything begun long before, with the invisible, but extremely powerful, choice to take a first step and then another and so on, with no attention on immediate outcomes, but the appreciation of the seeds we plant and that feeling of wholeness that comes from having done something for ourselves.
To keep yourself accountable and committed, it is also very important to explain what you have done (avoided or postponed) to someone else who knows your purpose as:
- they can give you encouragement and support, converging also their energy in the same direction,
- it is more likely they can spot your blind spots as they have an external perspective and, probably, they can see things about yourself that you can’t,
- if we know someone is watching us, our desire of being appreciated and approved will make us try harder and more seriously and we will be more likely to succeed.
I will deep dive into this in the next posts. For now, just ask yourself this simple question “what is my level of commitment?”, “am I really into this?”. If you feel you cannot commit 100%, why not? What setbacks, problems, obstacles are in the way?
My level of commitment against my desire is________________________________________________________
I can’t commit 100% because of____________________________________________________________________
Do you relate to this? I’ll see you in the next post where we will be talking about Stress and how to positively react to it.

(*) This is why we chose the name Lifekoru. Lifekoru, is a crasis (aka union) of ‘life’ and ‘koru’. So, what is this koru all about? In the Maori language, the koru is the name of a silver fern frond and in the local culture it symbolises the perpetual movement and flowing of life, whilst in the continuity. This unfurling sprout reaches out to the light and represents the starting and growing of a new life with strength, peace and harmony. The koru helps us to remember that each day is a gift, the beginning of new opportunities, a blank canvas to paint with whatever colour we like to create whatever we want, the beginning of our new life. We’d like to share with you many fresh starts, high on strength and harmony, to express the healthier and brightest version of ourselves.
